Two examples of manufacturers supplying mini-M terminals are Thrane & Thrane and Nera. There are over 40 varieties of Mini-M terminals aimed at land, sea and air users, with the majority being based around the two models described here.

The Thrane and Thrane 3060A Capsat weights 2.2kg and enables near worldwide user access to voice, fax and e-mail communications. The terminal has a detachable and watertight antenna, with an indicator showing signal strength. Specific features include:

  • Built-in NiCad batteries and charger
  • SIM card reader
  • 2.5 hours talk time and 48 hours standby
  • Optional secure telephone unit
  • Optional picture transmission software
  • Phone and date ports with separate call IDs
 

The NERA WorldPhone is no larger than a notebook computer and also handles voice, fax and data communications. The satellite antenna is built into the terminal's carry case. Specific features include:

  • Built-in rechargeable batteries and charger
  • Three hours talk time and 50 hours standby
  • SIM card slot for mobility management and authentication
  • Hands free capability
  • Multilingual display
  • Phone book
  • Secure interface unit
  • Message and call forwarding services
  • Voice, fax and data ports
